Yet another international education league table with the UK bringing up the rear makes me wonder if it’s really the kids here at fault rather than our education system :
In a damning indictment of Labour’s legacy, it emerged that deprived pupils in countries such as Estonia, Indonesia, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Mexico and Slovenia perform better than those from Britain.
Data from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development shows some 31 per cent of poor children internationally manage to exceed expectations for their social class in school tests.
But in Britain, the proportion slumps to just a quarter – placing the country below the global average and 39th out of 65 countries.
It suggests disadvantaged children in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have less chance of climbing the social ladder than in the majority of developed nations.
The last paragrpah there suggests that disadvantaged* kids would do a lot better if only they were given the chances enjoyed by the better off.
If that is really the case then how do we explain the fact that the UK’s performance in educational achievement continues to fall even after Labours £30 billion cash splurge on education, education, education (to quote B’Liar)?
I would suggest that after all the years of being told that they have rights, the perception that someone else is always to blame and “prizes for all” style results that it is the kids themselves who have no desire or ambition to better themselves and that no amount of buggering about with the education system fundamentals will change the situation.
The same article has the following which I think demonstrates that willing pupils and demanding parents will achieve much more than any amount of £billions pissed up the wall :
According to figures published this week, more than 70 per cent of poor pupils in parts of China and Hong Kong exceeded the standard expected of them.
Korea, Singapore and Japan were also named among the top-performing nations.
Have another look at the post photo above – the first item there is quite apt in this case.
Don’t expect anyone in Whitehall to even dare to broach that subject though. The Tories wouldn’t dare for fear of being called elitist whilst Labour and the Limp Dumps are too far up their own socialist arses to ever consider a thought so heretical.
It will most likely take until the UK is 65th out of 65 for someone to begin suggesting that it isn’t the system after all but by that time we really will be buggered.
* How I hate that socialist term alng with describing half the country as vulnerable.
