Cameroids grand desert campaign seems to be running out of steam or, well, things to drop from planes when they can find enough pilots to fly them.
From Defense News (yes its a US site with the spelling) :
WASHINGTON – NATO is running short of precision bombs and other munitions in its Libyan operation against the forces of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, The Washington Post reported April 15.
Citing unnamed senior NATO and U.S. officials, the newspaper said the shortage highlights the limitations of Britain, France and other European countries in sustaining even a relatively small military action.
The scope of the problem was not mentioned.
The shortage of European munitions, along with the limited number of aircraft available, has raised doubts among some officials about whether the United States can continue to avoid returning to the air campaign, the report said.
So far, the NATO commander has not requested their deployment, The Post noted.
But several U.S. military officials said they anticipated being called back into the fight, the paper said.
Washington pulled back around 50 combat planes from Libyan operations last week after handing over control of the mission to NATO, although since then they took part in some missions to take out Gadhafi’s air defense systems.
Currently, only six out of 28 nations are conducting air strikes, while France and Britain carry out half of them.
It’s a good job we are only pissing around playing games for oil rather than having to fight a real war if this is all we can manage on our own.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Argentina have a go at the Falklands again while we are floundering around like a beached prescott whale.
I’m sure they’ll start a proper way if someone asks nicely.
I think they will need a proper war soon to disguise the fact that half of the world is bankrupt.
Hardly matters that they’re short of bombs when they’re also short of both aircraft and people trained to drop the bloody things. Maybe when they look it from the point of view of how many bombs there are per trained person they think they’ve got enough?
AE – well yes there is that way of looking at it.
It’s still a good job that we don’t have a proper war to fight or we would be back to the late 1930’s rushing around like fools to rearm when it’s too damned late.
