As the modern day UK descends into total and complete irrelevance in the world thanks to cuts to our armed forces and assimilation into a Federal European State, news today that arty types are protesting over cuts to the arts merely confirms how pointless this country is :

Some of the biggest names in British film, television and theatre are warning that government cuts pose a serious threat to the arts in the UK.

In a letter to the Observer, Dame Helen Mirren, David Tennant and others say public investment in the arts brings in a “staggering” return for the country.

“Culture cannot and should not be an easy target for cuts,” they add.

Well, they would protest wouldn’t they as we fund most of their wages.

Unfortunately, the government seems to agree:

Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt said cuts to the arts were less deep than those to many other areas such as the police.

I have no idea why they would decide that the arts are more important than actual services unless keeping the proles entertained has the highest priority to stave off riots and other disorder.
