It would seem that HMRC are in a state of utter shambles with their new computer system.
A letter arrived at the nest today informing me of my tax code for 2010-11. I was informed that my tax free amount had been reduced by £3 in order to collect an underpayment of 60 pence tax from a previous year. This line was accompanied by the glib statement :
… you may remember us telling you about this before.
Well, fuckwits, yes I do remember as I still have the letter from you sent in February 2005 telling me that the underpayment of 60 pence from 2003-04 would be collected in the tax year ending April 2006! And it was.
Now I would not normally bother about 60 pence but there is a principle here and just maybe some fun to be had annoying a mouthbreathing HMRC drone. Unfortunately, it would seem everyone and their grandmother is phoning them up as I still haven’t got through after 5 attempts. Tonights effort was the best yet – phoning at 19:15 and going through the menu system complete with hyper annoying, overly familiar recorded voice bitch (try 0845 070 3703 and choose 2 1 3 to get your blood pressure up) I was greeted with :
Our enquiry lines are very busy right now please try another time. Goodbye.
I just hope they recorded my abusive response to that!
To be continued …
